This website contains the passing down of stories, mementos, legends, pictures, and other pieces of the past, but also to shape the way those
pieces are interpreted by family members in the present and future.

The historial understanding of the Darden Family is poorly documentmented in the records of Jerusalem/Courtland Southampton, Virginia. The Darden
Family heritage has been diminished and despoiled overtime. Our heritage does not demand factual accuracy but our family history must ensure
historical accuracy. This website is one mechanism by which Darden Family can generate feelings of pride, connection, and belonging around
a shared past, no matter how painful or violent that past may have been.

The Darden Family roots are circa: 1805 in Jerusalem, Courtland, Southampton County, Virginia. From 1805 to 1845; thus, comman among slavery, there is a lost of human identity in the Darden Family. Because there are several set of Dardens in Courtland and throughout Virginia, we understand that telling our family life stories may intrude upon other families' history. Starting with Jacob Darden and Hannah Scarborough, (click on the link on the left) there is a match of the Darden Family Heritage to the Darden Family History.
